NURSING EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship Amount: $500 - $1,000

Nursing education scholarships are funded from the Nursing Foundation’s general funds or from the following donor-specified Memorial and Special Recognition Scholarships based on available funding. Applicants for Nursing Education Scholarships only need to submit one application. The Foundation will make decisions on donor-specified awards based on available funds.

All scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in a nursing program who demonstrate financial need, have maintained a 3.0 GPA (2.0 for practical nursing), and have demonstrated clinical proficiency, enthusiasm, and motivation in their studies of nursing. Preference will be given to students who are full-time and in the latter half of their nursing program. Preference will be given to Rhode Island residents enrolled in a Rhode Island nursing program.

Application Deadline: June 1st for RN students and May 1st for PN students

Notification: June for RN students; May for PN students. Students selected for scholarships will be notified of their award by mail. Award recipients must respond to the award notification letter by the date stated in the award letter or the scholarship will be forfeited.

Presentation: Presentations of scholarships will be made at an award ceremony in July.

Application Procedure:

• The applicant must submit an essay and a cover letter that includes her/his name, address, telephone number, email address, nursing program, and expected date of graduation.
• The essay is to be a short, two to three paragraph essay about the reason(s) why the scholarship is needed to complete the nursing program.
• One (1) copy of the student’s transcript must be included by applicant and mailed with the cover letter.
• Two (2) letters of recommendation with one (1) from a nursing faculty member must be mailed by individuals writing the recommendations, postmarked by June 1st, to the address below.
• Forward above information to the Scholarship Committee, Nursing Foundation of RI, PO Box 41702, Providence, RI 02940.

Distribution: The scholarship recipients will be notified by mail. A check will be written jointly payable to the recipient and the school. Students awarded $1000 scholarships will receive $500 in July and $500 in December. Students must remain as a nursing major and continue to meet Foundation academic requirements to receive the second half of $1000 scholarships.

CLARE SULLIVAN MEMORIAL NURSE LEADER SCHOLARSHIP

Funded by family, friends and colleagues in memory of Clare Sullivan, RN, BS, MA , the scholarship is awarded, subject to available funding, to a registered nurse who demonstrates leadership ability, is enrolled in a post baccalaureate program in nursing and has maintained academic honors. Rhode Island residents will be given award priority.

Amount of the award: $500.00 to $1000.00

Application Deadline: June 1st

Notification and Presentation: The Scholarship recipient will be notified by mail in June and the award presented at a ceremony in July.

Application Procedure:

• The applicant must submit an essay and a cover letter that includes her/his name, address, telephone number, email address, nursing program and expected date of graduation.
• The essay is to be a short one page essay that demonstrates applicant’s commitment to nursing and outlines their short term goals related to nursing, a long term goal related to nursing, and how they plan to use their leadership skills as an outcome to their nursing program.
• Two (2) letters of recommendation, one (1) from a nursing faculty member or nursing leader and one (1) preferably from a current or recent employer must be mailed by individuals making recommendation, postmarked by June 1st, to the address below.
• Forward the above information to the Scholarship Committee, Nursing Foundation of RI, PO Box 41702, Providence, RI 02940.
